Cano, Sabathia power Yanks to 10-0 drubbing of M's and series win

Robinson Cano hit a grand slam and later drove two more in for a career-high six-RBI game while CC Sabathia pitched six scoreless innings, striking out eight en route to a 10-0 Yankee win and Sabathia's American League-leading 17th victory. This is how the team with the best record in baseball is supposed to treat the worst offense in the Majors.

Seattle starter Luke French lasted five innings and gave up five earned runs. The Yankees also received solo bombs from Jorge Posada and Austin Kearns, who had a .408 wOBA with the Yanks entering this game. He'll cool down soon enough, but he's been a pleasure to watch thus far.

The Yankees are rather amazingly 12-0 without Alex Rodriguez in the lineup this season, and hopefully can keep that unbeaten streak going with Alex out for two weeks.

Sabathia only used 76 pitches in this one and even though the Yankees haven't announced anything yet seems a lock to start Friday's game at Chicago on regular rest with Thursday's off day, especially now that the starting rotation's been pushed back a day.

Cano's blast was his 25th of the season, tying the career-high he set last year. I think it's safe to say he'll be setting a new career high shortly. Entering the game Cano was worth 5.8 WAR, good for second-best in the AL after Josh Hamilton and his insane 6.8. I have to say, though I felt like the Cano-for-MVP chatter was very premature back in early May and one of Hamilton or Miguel Cabrera will likely end up winning the trophy, Cano's season truly has been one for the ages. Given how relatively unheralded Cano was coming up through the Yankees' system, I can't imagine many in baseball thought he'd develop into this level of elite player, but that's just what he's become. You expect him to get a big hit almost every time up.

As a side note, the grand slam was the Yankees' 10th as a team this season, tying the franchise record. Keep 'em coming, boys. Keep 'em coming.
