This April was probably the worst month of Mark Teixeira's career. He hit .136/.300/.259, which is comically below replacement level.I didn't believe that Tex would be able to earn his paycheck after his slow April last year, and I certainly didn't think the $181 million man would earn the money this year.
Shows you what I know. Tex is batting .400/.471/.767 in May. His offensive explosion yesterday raised his OPS+ to 104 on the season. He's now on pace to hit 28 homers and 112 RBI.
Last season through May 8th Tex was batting .192 with a .720 OPS. He is now officially outpacing last year. His .207 average is better and his .740 OPS is better.
The Yankees have had offense to spare all season, despite poor showings from Tex, A-Rod and the now injured Nick Johnson. With Tex hitting home runs and Alex showing signs of life the Yankees should be able to continue to put up the numbers they'll need to keep pace with the Rays.
Good players come around! this is why i still have hope for Javy!
