As per MLB Trade Rumors, the Rangers have signed Vlad Guerrero to a one-year, $6 million deal. This is a nice move for Texas--though Vlad may not quite be his once-beastly self, he's still a pretty imposing mid-lineup presense. Had the Yankees not signed The Stick, not only would I have been all aboard the Vlad to the Yanks train, I'd have been the conductor.
This move is also significant as it further weakens the Angels while strenghtening a division foe. While nowhere near as improved as the Mariners now are, both Seattle and the Rangers should finally present a real challenge to Los Angeles, who's basically been cruising in the AL West for the past decade or so.
Also per MLBTR, the Giants signed Aubrey Huff to a one-year deal, which has led some to assume that they may no longer be in the running on Johnny Damon. It's looking more and more like JD will end up back in pinstripes; I just don't see Atlanta offering the money he's looking for and if he can get the same deal in New York, it should be a no-brainer.
