I've already gone on record with my desire to play the Twins over the Tigers in the ALDS. Now Sam Borden points out that Justin Verlander is scheduled to pitch on Sunday, but would be scratched in the event that the Tigers can clinch the Central beforehand. If Verlander is in fact pressed into duty on Sunday, this will all but assure that the Yankees will pick the longer ALDS schedule (which all signs point to them doing regardless), as Verlander wouldn't be ready until Game 2 next Friday. The thought of not having to face Verlander in Game 1 is all kinds of awesome.
Sam also mentions that if Detroit-- who owns a two-game lead on Minnesota heading into the weekend -- manages to lose two of three to the White Sox this weekend and the Twins sweep the Royals, the teams would be forced into a one-game playoff.
So not only would the Yankees' potential opponent have their work cut out for them in a sudden death 163rd game in Minnesota, but the game apparently wouldn’t even be played until Tuesday because the Vikings are on Monday Night Football.
Man, if I were a fan of either team I'd be furious that the tiebreaker is scheduled for the day before the ALDS because of a football game! Thank you, NFL!
I'm down to root for the Twinkleholes. Either way I love our chances, we've got the best home record in baseball and both of them have losing records on the road.
ReplyDeleteOther scenarios...Chi Sox sweep, and Twins take 2 of 3 (they do face Greinke tomorrow night). Another interesting thing to point out. In the event of a 1-game playoff; that would be 2 years in counting that this occurred, including the AL Central and the Twins...Last year was Twins/Chi Sox and I think the game ended 1-0 in favor of the Sox.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you have seen this, but it's awesome.
